Halloween Activism?

With Halloween there are many pressing issues that ought to be addressed. These issues are of the utmost importance and as good citizens it is our duty to work toward change.

The first is that all schools should be canceled the day after Halloween.

Halloween is an important holiday that, like Christmas and many other such holidays, is on a specific date every year, as opposed to ones like Thanksgiving which are always the same day of the week. Now I have heard the argument that Halloween should just get moved to always be on a Friday or Saturday, but this is just ridiculous. Halloween is historically connected to October 31st. This day is the Eve of All Saints day (I think). It’s basically like a Christmas eve, but if Christmas eve were way cooler than Christmas.

School should be off the day after Halloween, because everyone knows Halloween is largely a nighttime holiday. The dark brings out the spookiness and it’s at night that kids are trick or treating, granted not that late cus they’re kids but still nighttime. With the nighttime festivities it is cruel and unusual to then force kids to go to school in the morning.

In my personal experience, Halloween is the best when you can have a sleepover with your friends after trick or treating. You can trade candy giving your friends the gross ones they like for some reason for the candy you actually like. You also can just really make the most of the spooky day and watch Halloween movies and tell scary stories. This is impossible, however, when you have to get up and go to school the next day. You can’t stay up as late and if your mom is like mine, I doubt you’re allowed to have a sleepover on a school night. School really just puts a damper on the holiday and needs to be stopped!

Halloween is an important holiday that for some reason the school system does not recognize and this is an egregious laps of judgement which we all must come together to fix.

Another problem with Halloween that needs to be addressed is giving out healthy snacks. Healthy snacks do not belong on Halloween. I remember there was one house that always gave out apples and my friends and I would either use these apples as weapons and chuck them at boys in our class, or we would simply skip over this house altogether once we learned there was nothing good there. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a good apple, but you can get an apple anytime. Halloween is a special occasion where you get candy, which most kids don’t usually get that frequently. Apples do not belong.

Other healthier but not quite healthy snacks like pretzels and things should also be prohibited on Halloween. These snacks are the sort of things parents buy their kids for lunch anyway and no one wants to be given them. If you are giving out pretzels and chips instead of candy then you should be ashamed of yourself.

We have to work to make change by banning healthy snacks from Halloween. They do not belong.

I will say though that there was one house that gave out mini soda cans, other sugary drinks, and waters which I actually thought was kind of cool, even though it wasn’t candy. This, however, was useful since walking around you might get thirsty and want a water or something and if you weren’t you could always just take a soda for later. This was only acceptable though because it was the only house that gave out soda instead of candy. If more people had done this it would have been a problem.

The moral of the story is that Halloween is a super awesome holiday and we have to work together to make it even better! Schools ought to recognize the importance of Halloween and close their doors on November 1st. Also, we should ban all healthy snacks from being given out on Halloween, because they simply do not belong.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!
